Broken Heart Robots Seen In Wired Article

Posted on 06 April 2009 by genshi

I discovered an interesting article today in the U.K edition of Wired Magazine. It talks of how researchers are experimenting with giving robots the ability to “sense” when their human owners are upset and to then avoid their angry owners.

What caught my eye though was that the picture they used for the article was one I took of my Broken Heart Robot toys! I’m very honored that Wired Magazine chose my Broken Heart Robot as the image (inspiration?) for the story.

Coincidentally, I’ve been experimenting with the Arduino platform; thinking about making an actual, autonomous robot… maybe I should program it to fear me as well!

The article was written by Katie Scott for Wired U.K. (Online editing by Holden Firth.) Article link: http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2009-03/30/robots-taught-to-hide-from-grumpy-humans.aspx

National Photographers’ Rights Day

Posted on 06 June 2008 by genshi

I had the pleasure to be invited to the first-ever Photographers’ Rights Rally in Los Angeles, Ca. The event, known as National Photographers’ Rights Day, or NPRD, was organized by “Discarted” and a flickr group was created to explain the motivation behind the rally and to share information and photos from the event.

We met at the Hollywood and Highland Metro Station and after a couple of hours getting to know each other, camera gear discussions and taking photos, we took the Redline down to Union Station.

I met some great people, took a few cool pictures and wished that this was a monthly event (at least) as it was just too important to be a once a year thing and it was a great experience as well; to get out on the streets and capture the many characters of Hollywood and Downtown Los Angeles.

This particular photo was taken at Union Station of video-blogger Naomi Mercer interviewing Discarted about the Photographers’ Rights Rally. To see more photos from my perspective, you can view my flickr set created for the event.

Issue 35 Wonkavision Magazine

Issue 35 Wonkavision Magazine

Issue 35 of independent music magazine Wonkavision is now out and features a special Art Toy design issue available in 3 different covers. The issue also includes an interview with Genshi Media Group’s Craig Anthony Perkins on his process and thoughts on designing toys as well as a stellar review of his Broken Heart Robot design:

“The simple, clean lines and curves, and soft, solid colors of all editions distinguish the Broken Heart Robot from the busy details and overflowing colors saturating the designer toy market…”

The magazine is available at newsstands now as well as on Wonkavision Magazine’s own website.
